Write about something that you believed as a child.

 Prompt Response: When I was younger, I thought that the tooth fairy was real. Every time that I'd lose a tooth, I'd put it in a small cushion my parents had bought me to put under my pillow. As I got older, it started clicking in my head that it probably wasn't actually the tooth fairy who was leaving me money under my pillow. I remember there was one day I asked my mom if the tooth fairy was real and she had no words, she couldn't crush her daughter's dreams. Eventually I found out that the tooth fairy wasn't real, but my mom and I still laugh about how speechless I left her when I asked her about whether or not the tooth fairy was real. 

Summary: Today in class we talked about the different types of claims and practiced claims of values. 

Reflection: We learned about the differences between claims of fact, claims of value, and claims of policy as well as figuring out whether or not something is actually arguable. I can use this knowledge in the future to make sure that I'm using the right types of evidence to support my claims in order to create the strongest arguments possible.

  Prompt Response: Something that has been going well for me in AP Language is our blog posts. I really enjoy writing them and find it quite therapeutic, even if sometimes I'm not too sure about what to write for the prompt. I also really enjoy our classroom discussions because when I don't understand something, hearing people break down their responses really helps me get the things that we're learning better. The class in itself has been a bit challenging as I'm not much of an ELA person, so sometimes I don't fully get what we're doing, but it really helps that we usually spend time on a concept and practice it. One thing that I need to improve moving forward is doing my blog posts on the same day that they're assigned. Think about the word or phrase you find yourself using the most right now. What is it, what does it mean, and why has it become part of your everyday vocabulary? Explain when you typically use it and what your choice of this word or phrase might reveal about you.

Prompt Response: The phrase that I find myself using the most right now is "I guess" but I add a lot of s's at the end. It has become a part of my everyday language as I actually picked it up from the guy I'm talking to. The first day that we really started talking, I noticed he did that a lot and without noticing at first, I started doing it a lot too. I only noticed after one of my friends pointed out how much I used that same phrase. I mainly do it when someone counters my point and I also do a gesture with it where I smile and look to the side. Write about a conversation that changed you.

  Prompt Response: A conversation that changed me would be when I asked my mom why my brothers got so much freedom yet I was so sheltered. My brothers got to do as they pleased meanwhile I could never leave the house. She told me that it was simply because I was a girl which made me realize that in the eyes of society, I would always be weaker in comparison to a man. It was an idea that was embedded in my culture and something that we see constantly in society. Unfortunately, the world is not going to change and women will always be viewed as inferior to men which is something that I will continue to encounter in my life.
